Prayers and Scripture
Prayers for grief
Grief is love with nowhere to go, and it does not follow a schedule. God does not rush you through it, and he does not leave you alone in it.
These verses are for the brokenhearted. Read them gently, and let yourself be comforted.
A prayer for grief
Father, my heart is broken, and the loss I am carrying feels too heavy for words. You are near to the brokenhearted, and you save those crushed in spirit, so I bring my sorrow to you exactly as it is. I do not have to explain it or tidy it up. Thank you that you collect every tear and that you understand grief, having walked through it yourself. Comfort me in the waves that come without warning. Hold me through the nights that feel the longest. Remind me of the hope that one day you will wipe away every tear, and there will be no more mourning or pain. Until then, sit with me in this sorrow. Let me feel that I am not alone, and carry me when I cannot carry myself. Be my comfort, my refuge, and my hope. Amen.
