Prayers and Scripture
Prayers for comfort
When you are hurting, what you often need most is simply to be comforted. God is described as the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort.
These verses are a gentle place to rest. Let them remind you that you are seen, held, and cared for.
A prayer for comfort
Father of compassion and God of all comfort, I come to you weary and aching, in need of your tenderness. You comfort us in all our troubles, and you draw near to the hurting rather than turning away. Wrap me in your comfort now, the way a mother comforts her child. Even in the darkest valley, let me know that you are with me, that your presence steadies me, and that I have nothing ultimately to fear. Quiet the worries that wear me down, and ease the ache I have carried for so long. Come to me, since you invite the weary and heavy-laden to find rest in you. Let your loving-kindness be my comfort, just as you have promised. And in time, use the comfort I receive from you to comfort others who are hurting. Hold me close, and let me rest in your care. Amen.
